FAQ
Everything parents ask us, in one place
If your question isn’t here, ask it on the phone. There’s no such thing as a silly one in family court.
Is the first meeting confidential?
Yes, even if you don’t hire us. What you tell a lawyer while asking for advice stays private.
Can I meet by video?
Yes. Most clients do at least some meetings by video. You can also come to our office on East Speedway.
Which papers should I gather?
Any court papers you’ve received, recent pay stubs and a tax return, and a list of your questions.
How do you bill?
By the hour, with a written estimate for each step and monthly statements. A retainer is held in trust and drawn down as we work.
Can my spouse be ordered to pay my fees?
Sometimes, when incomes are very unequal or one side acts unreasonably. We’ll tell you if it’s worth asking for.
How long will my case take?
Agreed cases can finish in a few months. Contested ones can take a year or more. Your plan gives you our honest estimate.
What is mediation like?
You, your spouse and a neutral mediator, often in separate rooms. The mediator carries offers back and forth. Nothing is final until you sign.
Can I change an old order?
Often, if something important has changed since it was made. Bring the order and tell us what’s different now.
How do you keep contact safe?
We ask for a safe number, a safe time and whether we can leave messages, and we follow it exactly.
What does the quick exit button do?
It opens a weather page right away. Use it if someone walks in. It doesn’t erase your history, so clear that too if you can.
Still wondering about your own case?
Ask a lawyer directly. The first call is private.
