Divorce

Divorce without burning the next ten years

Most of a divorce is arithmetic and a few hard conversations. We help with both.

We sort out what you own, what you owe and what each of you will need to start over, then try to settle it in mediation. If your spouse hides money or won’t negotiate, we take it to a judge with the paperwork ready.

You decide how hard to push. We tell you what each choice is likely to cost before you make it.

What it covers

The pieces of a divorce we take apart

  • The house

Selling, refinancing or one of you keeping it, with the numbers for each laid side by side.

  • Debts and accounts

Who pays the cards, the car loan and the joint account, and when the names come off.

  • Retirement

Dividing a 401(k) or pension with the court order the plan needs, so nobody pays a penalty.

  • Spousal maintenance

Whether it applies, how much, for how long, and what ends it early.

  • Mediation

We prepare you, sit beside you, and turn what you agree into papers a judge will sign.

  • Trial

When settling fails, we build the case: witnesses, documents and a clear story for the judge.

Divorce questions we hear every week

How long does a divorce take?

There’s a waiting period after filing that no one can skip. Past that, an agreed divorce can finish soon after; a contested one can take a year or more.

Do we each need a lawyer?

We can only represent one of you. Your spouse can hire a lawyer, use a mediator, or represent themselves.

Should I move out?

Talk to us first. Moving out can affect temporary parenting time and who stays in the house while the case runs.

What do I bring to the first meeting?

Recent pay stubs, a tax return, and a rough list of accounts and debts. Don’t worry if it’s incomplete.
